As a student at College of Western Idaho (CWI), a wide range of financial aid options are available to help ease the burden of college expenses. Explore your options, and learn about the types of aid available to find the best fit for your needs!  

Federal Financial Aid

For most federal financial aid, you will, first, need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to confirm your eligibility. The FAFSA needs to be completed each new academic year.

Fall 2024 Financial Aid Priority Deadline – Saturday, July 27

  • Complete your FAFSA and submit all required documentation by this date in order for funding to be available for the first scheduled disbursement date of the Fall 2024 semester.

    Are you a 2024 Idaho high school graduate? Learn how to get up to $8,000 of your tuition and fees covered at CWI through Idaho LAUNCH!

    Applications for the Idaho LAUNCH program open in October and typically run through the following April. High school students are highly encouraged to apply early.

  • Grants

    Grants are available through the Department of Education and awarded to students based on financial need as determined by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Grants do not typically need to be repaid. 

    Three types of federal grants are available: 

    • Federal Pell Grant
    • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
    • Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

  • Scholarships

    Scholarships are awarded to students based on specific criteria that has been determined by the donor or organization providing the funds. Criteria can include things like your academic performance, program of study, membership in an underrepresented group, residency in a certain area, and demonstrated financial need. Scholarships typically do not have to be paid back. 

    Completion of a single application at CWI will provide you with automatically-generated scholarship matches, including over 10,000 external scholarship opportunities, allowing you to self-select scholarships that interest you.

  • Work-Study

    Work-study jobs allow you to get a head start on your future success while earning money to pay for your education. Part-time, hourly work-study positions on campus and in the community are not only a financial benefit but can help you gain valuable work experience and develop skills to help you throughout your college experience and beyond!

  • Student & Parent Loans

    Loans are money that you or your parents borrow and repay with interest. Federal student loans can be offered at lower interest rates with various repayment terms. Some loans require a demonstration of need while others do not.

  • Military & National Service Benefits

    Educational assistance is available to eligible students currently serving in the military, veterans, and their dependents. Visit Veterans and Military Family Services for questions or assistance with using and maximizing your veteran education benefits.

  • CWIDeal Boost

    Boost your college savings up to $500 per semester with a CWIDeal Boost, a partnership between CWI and the IDeal-Idaho College Savings program (also called a 529 Plan). CWIDeal Boost offers incentives to students and families saving for college through IDeal, including a matching scholarship opportunity for qualifying CWI students.
